Juxtaposition

Melanie Mücke, mother of our dear Johanna, took many  excellent photographs at the 80th Anniversary event. We hope to share more of those photos here, and I feel sure Ron Chaulet will want to share some on his website (https://www.13april1945.com) as well!

But today I want to share just one. She snapped it when a freight train slowly rumbled by during the festivities, on those same tracks where the 1945 train was abandoned.

The minute I saw it, I thought: “Why does that look so familiar?” I went back to the film shot by the U.S. Army on April 14, 1945, and … well, you can see why I thought Melanie Mücke’s photo struck that chord with me!

Eighty years difference. The same clear, bright sky above.
